At Chiltern Primary School we are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for every pupil. That commitment is not confined to the classroom: it extends into homes and communities because we know that children flourish when school and family work closely together. I want to set out how we support families, how we champion every child, and how we will work with you to ensure learning is accessible, engaging and inspiring.

 

Positive relationships are the foundation of everything we do. We want our school to be a place where pupils, staff and families feel respected, valued and listened to. When relationships are strong, pupils are more confident, attendance improves, behaviour is more positive, and learning deepens. We therefore prioritise clear, respectful communication and a culture of mutual support. We encourage you to contact your child’s class teacher as the first point of discussion about progress, wellbeing or any concerns — our teachers are approachable and committed to working with you.

 

Every child is unique, and at the heart of our practice is a determination to champion every pupil. We celebrate individuality and strive to understand and nurture the strengths and needs of every child. That means tailoring support where it is needed, adapting teaching approaches to make learning accessible, and setting high expectations so that all pupils can achieve their potential academically, socially and emotionally. We want Chiltern to be a place where pupils are inspired to learn, safe to take risks, and confident to be themselves.

 

To strengthen our partnership with families we have a dedicated Home School Liaison Manager, Liz Jackson. Liz plays a pivotal role in keeping communication channels open, responding to concerns, and linking families with appropriate support both within school and in the wider community. If you ever need assistance, Liz is a point of contact who will listen and help coordinate the right response.

 

Our senior leadership team is fully committed to working closely with families. If an issue cannot be resolved through discussion with the class teacher, we operate a graduated approach to resolution. The next step would be to speak with the Phase Leader, followed by the Head of School. In exceptional circumstances you may request to meet with our Executive Headteacher. Where matters relate to leadership decisions and require governance oversight, Stewart Savage, our Chair of Governors, can be contacted via the School Office to ensure appropriate action is taken.

 

We will continue to provide regular, accessible information about your child’s learning — through termly reports, parent consultations and opportunities to view classroom learning. We aim to expand our family support workshops and information sessions to cover topics that parents have told us are important, such as supporting reading at home, online safety and emotional wellbeing. These sessions are designed to give practical strategies you can use at home and to foster connections between families. We will strengthen signposting to external services for families who need specialist advice, ensuring that no family feels they must navigate challenges alone.

 

We also recognise the importance of listening. In the coming months we will invite further feedback from parents and carers about how we can improve communication and support. Your voice matters in shaping what we do; collaborative working is central to our success.

 

Chiltern Primary School sees family engagement not as an optional extra, but as a core element of a child’s education. By prioritising positive relationships, championing every pupil, and working in close partnership with you, we can create a vibrant educational community in which learning is truly accessible for every child.
